Whats with the jumping jacks?
Good morning to the internet warriors!
One thing that you will notice is that we do jumping jack regularly....most people think of the jumping jack as some little, old exercise, and they don't understand how beneficial these simple little exercises are. The key to a great exercise is doing it well and sadly when people don't have the understanding or respect for something they thus prefer to just get through it.
Today I wanted to deliver to you the benefits of the jumping jack.
Unlike most exercises, this is one that rarely gets ridiculed in the fitness industry.... and it has surely stood the test of time. There is a big reason why..... IT WORKS!
By no means should the jumping jack be the workout itself....So please no 30 day jumping jack programs.... But it is okay to do them daily!
5 BENEFITS OF THE JUMPING JACK
- IT IS A FULL BODY MOVEMENT
Often times when people work out, they try to squeeze in as much as they can in a little amount of time. (although we don't recommend that....) This exercise can be done anywhere, at anytime....and will work your ENTIRE body....The key is making sure you do them CORRECTLY. That is what will give you the most bang for your buck...
- THE JUMPING JACK WILL INCREASE MOBILITY
At TFW Visalia we do 3 different variations of jumping jacks when we do them. They involve us moving through different planes of motion. This allows our shoulder to move in a greater range, and the explosiveness of the movements will warm the shoulders up through a greater range of motion at a more reactive pace which is a PERFECT part of warm up for when you are lifting weights, or doing various exercises that incorporate upper body strength and power.
- THE JUMPING JACK WILL INCREASE MUSCULAR ACTIVATION AND REACTIVITY
Not only are your shoulders going to mobilize more, but the movement itself will begin activating musculature that is necessary for a great work out. The term activate simply means that the muscle being uses is warmed up and turned on for the rest of the workout. This also happens to the lowerbody and core due to the hoping and leg motions. The jumping jack is a great way to fire up your abs, quads, adductors, and glutes as well. Your adductors (inner thighs). and glutes are responsible for the lateral movement of the legs, and our quads are our main decelerating muscles (the muscles the fire when we land). The core fires due to the spines need to be stabilized through all of this movement.
Talk about bang for your buck.
- THE JUMPING JACK WILL INCREASE YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE
Honestly, if you read number 3, you will know why this happens.. .think of all the activity going through your body with this simple drill...its no wonder it has been included in warm ups for and workout routines for as long as it has. One big key to injury reduction is making sure the body temperature is elevated enough for a particular activity...if it's not the muscle and ligaments will not be as responsive.
- THE JUMPING JACK WILL HELP YOU FOCUS
One big thing that we want everyone to understand from our program is that there is never something done for nothing with us. We do jumping jacks because we believe in them...honestly. We know the benefits that they produce and we believe in the value that they uphold....so our BIGGEST tip to you, is not to focus on anything else at that present time but DOING THEM RIGHT.
If you focus on what your body is doing you are less likely to experience pain, and you are more likely to reap the reward....just like anything in life. Doing a strong set of jumping jacks can make you immensely better, but likewise if you do them poorly they can cause more harm than good. The key is giving them your all.
Like anything when we talk about exercise, I will also admit that the jumping jacks aren't right for everybody. There are some people that SHOULDN'T do them due to injury, pain, or weakness....but the beauty of it is there are always regressions. You just need to instill the fact that doing a modified version, is okay and that you will improve much faster if you go at your pace.
You deserve to succeed, and ALWAYS improve,. You can succeed and always improve...you just need to do the things that will help you and not hurt you.
At TFW we love the jumping jack, because it is a small but powerful addition to our great program.. Remember folks, we don't do anything for nothing....everything has a purpose.
In love and strength,
