Understanding Fitness...

Good afternoon warriors!

Over the last few weeks I have had so many transformational moments... it is unbelievable.

You see it all started with attending a 5 day TFW summit with my wife and co-captain Dina. At this event I was able to reassess a lot of our services, coaching, gain a better understanding of my vision for TFW Visalia, and really learn to understand what  I am doing on this earth.

This summit was life changing, but I think the biggest life change that is happening is the AFTERMATH of the summit.

Dina and I came back with a fire and a desire to change certain things about our dojo. We came back with a bigger and greater understanding of our mission as a Training for Warriors Affiliate.

You see when we got to the summit, the biggest take away that I received was that we are on a mission...not to simply give someone a sight of their abs....

But our mission as a brand is to be LIFE SAVING. I've known about the benefits of fitness for some time, yet for some reason I never had the confidence to speak about it... I always figured "sell to what they want." So someone would come in and say they want abs and an extra core finisher so I would say "great let's do it" and seldom speak of the mission.

That's when I put myself in a more vulnerable spot, and as I keep educating and motivating people on the deeper purpose of fitness...they become more open and they become more receptive... I can talk to my students and as I look in their eyes, I see the NEED for the deeper changes. It is much bigger than abs and a tighter butt. People are looking for a change.... they just don't want to ask.

I have had so many people open up to me more as a coach in the last few weeks than they have in the past 3 months... and it is because they feel more comfortable knowing that they are normal.

This is why I feel this article is necessary....

The 3 PURPOSES of FITNESS

  1. You will INCREASE your quality and quantity of your life.

    Everyone knows there are deadly killers in the world...people watch 20/20 episodes and then fear being murdered,  all the while they kill themselves...EVERY DAY.  According to the CDC here are the leading causes of death in the United States:

    • Heart disease: 614,348
    • Cancer: 591,699
    • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 147,101

    • Accidents (unintentional injuries): 136,053
    • Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 133,103
    • Alzheimer's disease: 93,541
    • Diabetes: 76,488
    • Influenza and pneumonia: 55,227
    • Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 48,146
    • Intentional self-harm (suicide): 42,773

    I bolded the ones that are more likely to be lifestyle based diseases... but there is so much evidence out now that the PROVES fitness can help with all of these leading causes of death.... being healthier not only saves your life, it gives you more of it....and in all honesty, most of you do not want to die...so this is a BIG reason to change your habits. Wouldn't you love to one day have grandkids and be able to PLAY with them and not watch them from a wheel chair?
     
  2. You gain a deeper and STRONGER self worth.

    A crazy thing happens when you develop strength....you get stronger. Strength is not only measured in your physical prowess but how you deal with life struggles, how you deal with people, and how you operate within your own being.  When you get stronger you begin to realize that you have a stronger worth in the world... Fitness may be a physical stressor but it is surely an emotional destressor. This is that "runners high" or  feeling lof achievement after PR in the gym. Your body was made to overcome, and overcoming obstacles develops pride and an understanding that you can handle it...Hallussa....

    Respect your body and your mind is bound to follow.

  3. You become more JOYOUS.

    Happiness is defined as "the state of being happy." Everybody has happiness in their life...even the most depressed person can experience happiness in their day. It is a moment, it is a feeling...but it is not a state of being. 

    Joyous is defined as "full of happiness and joy." This is what everyone wants when they say they want to be happy. Believe it or not I, Mikey...was depressed for much of my life. Pretty much up until I was in my early 20's... I was self destructive. I've been arrested, done harm to my body with alcohol, drugs, and carelessness. I hid it well (I think?) who knows...but I hated who I was, I hated where I came from...and I resented a lot of people for the fact that they had it "easy" and didn't understand what I came from.... It was when I really got SERIOUS about my lifestyle changes that I was able to experience what I would call joy. 

    I may be unhappy at times... I may be frustrated at times. That NEVER changes...but even in my unhappiest moments I still appreciate. and I still understand my blessings..


    This is what fitness will do for you....Not because it "worked for me" but because there is a special emotional connection to success.....when you train consistently you experience new successes almost daily...this builds on top of each other and you begin to FEEL more confident and powerful...this creates a sense of joy and pride in oneself. 
     

The only thing is, you need to ALLOW fitness to change you. This is where a great program will help you....A great program will teach you how to focus on what matters...there is no comparing yourself to others if you want to succeed...as there is ALWAYS someone better....There should be no degrading, intimidation or scare tactics either....

 Motivation is slow to gain and quick to fade... it should be nurtured as such.

Fitness is bigger than the physical component, as those results are byproducts of your changes and consistency... they come to those that put in the work.... your true fitness purpose is to invest in your own self and being....
